The 2017 North Norfolk Stroll

  • New walks
    • New hills to climb, including the infamous Beeston Bump
  • New people
  • New restaurant on Thursday night
  • New "strong and stable" weather guarantee
Annabel and Fred have done their recce and this year's stroll promises to be the best ever.

Here's a preview:

A Sheringham beach hut that we are hoping to hire (including a copy of The Daily Telegraph)

The treacherous descent from the Beeston Bump

The cliff edges are crumbling - please be careful

The ice cream shop in Cromer (we have decided to miss out Cromer - too posh)

If you have any big duvets that need washing, the Sheringham launderette is the place to take them

Countdown to the 2016 Stroll

The dates of the 2016 North Norfolk Stroll are fast approaching.  I've talked to the Met Office and Holkham Beach is predicted to have sunny days and warm water temperatures when we're there.  So swimming is a definite possibility.  Start tanning now.

The 2015 Stroll - the best yet

The Stroll is done.

Pre-stroll train trip from Wells to Walsingham.

We met on the Green at East Quay on Thursday evening:

About 12 miles on Friday (from Wells to Brancaster Staithe) and 12 miles on Saturday (from Cley to Wells - with a detour to see the seals on Blakeney Point by boat).

The weather on Friday morning started off with a few drops of rain (just enough to moisturise the skin, according to Tom Gretton).  By the time we reached Holkham Beach it was warm enough to encourage some skinny dipping.

In the evening it was clear and dry and bright enough to have fish and chips (and one dressed crab salad) on East Quay Green, accompanied by prodigious quantities of Alfred Gratien Champagne (thank you Jo Roll).

David Norgrove's posh "fish and chips"

Definitive proof that Britain is part of Europe:  mayonnaise on chips

We awoke on Saturday morning to bright sunshine - which kept us warm and full of Vitamin D throughout the whole of Saturday.

More champagne on the Buttlands and a delicious dinner at the Crown brought the weekend to an end.
