Not just a stroll......it was a fabulous weekend with friends, sunshine, skinny-dipping, wine and food

On Thursday evening, the first 13 trailblazers met on East Quay.  The weather gods had looked upon us kindly (and continued to do so for the rest of the weekend).

After a short period of chat and pre-loading, we moved on to The Globe for dinner.  Nearly everything on the menu was "off".  No pigeon breasts for Jeremy and Estella, only one crab and only one seafood platter for two.  Fish-loving Kathy was reduced to eating a steak.  We consumed fish cakes, hot smoked salmon, steaks, samphire and small amounts (basically, everything that was left in the Globe's fridge) of crab, lobster and seafood.  And 9 bottles of wine.

By Friday evening we had become a group of 17. We met again on East Quay, where we had French's fish and chips, washed down with a few gin and tonics, some champagne and wine.  At the end of the session, there were 9 empty bottles.

On Saturday we were joined by Sarah's sister Jackie - now we were 18.  We gathered in the garden of the Crown and then moved to the dining room.  We ate crab, avocado, duck, sea bass, risotto, creme brulee, raspberry and redcurrant jelly and cheese.  All in splendid surroundings.  And we polished off 15 bottles of wine.

Here are a few pictures to help you remember it all.

  1. As usual, the official photographer has done a great job. I'm grateful for the virtual walk, though my self pity may be a tad sharpened by it.

Dates for next year please as we would like to book up immediately. We feel a bit like Gilly G although we had wonderful celebrations with Iona in Edinburgh. We will bring Alkaselzer.
