The home stretch


Approximate timetable

Thursday, June 20

6 pm  Prosecco and nibbles on the Green overlooking the harbour on East Quay (outside Annabel and Fred’s B&B, The Old Custom House)


8 pm Supper at The Globe


Friday, June 21


9.15 am Catch bus to Salthouse. (Bus leaves at 9.24 from Freeman Street, opposite the Ark Royal pub.  We will get off the bus at Cross Street, the stop after Salthouse Green)

10 am Visit Salthouse Church


10.30 am Walk to Cley (About 2.5 miles) for a coffee stop

11.45 am Walk to Morston (About 4.1 miles)

1.30 pm Picnic lunch in Morston.


3.15 pm Take boat from Morston to see the seals at Blakeney Point (about two hours, including a one-hour stop at Blakeney Point).  We’ve booked a private boat (The Lily-Too), which takes 12. If more than 12 of us want to see the seals, there is also a larger boat that does exactly the same trip at the same time.   Please e-mail Fred (kavalier@btinternet.com) if you want to go out to see the seals.  The first 12 people to reply will be on the private boat, The rest will be booked on the larger boat (holds about 35). Cost of the trip is £12 on the small boat and £10 on the bigger boat.

After the boat trip we will take the bus back to Wells.



Non-boat trippers can walk (or takes the bus) back to Wells next the Sea (6 mile walk).

7 pm Drinks on the Green, East Quay.

8 pm Fish and chips from French’s on the Green (if dry); in case of rain we have booked a nice room in The Maltings (High Street, just around the corner from the Fish shop.).  The room only costs about £20 - even if we don’t use it the cost is minimal.


Saturday June 22

9.30 am Take bus to Holkham (Bus leaves outside Ark Royal pub at 09.43).

9.45 am Walk from Holkham to Burnham Overy Staithe (slightly less far than usual).  Swim on either normal beach or nudist beach, if weather is good.


1 pm Picnic lunch at Burnham Overy Staithe

2 pm Walk to Brancaster Staithe.

4.30 pm Tea or drinks in White Horse at Brancaster Staithe


5 pm Take bus back to Wells

7 pm Drinks either on the Buttlands Green outside The Crown, or, if wet in The Crown.

8 pm Dinner at The Crown


Sunday June 23

10 am Drive to Thornham.  Walk to Holme next the Sea (3.3 miles).  Take the bus back from Holme to Thornham

12.30 pm Picnic lunch at Thornham.

1.30/2 pm  Disperse

THINGS YOU MIGHT WANT TO BRING (based on bitter experience)

  • Good walking boots or trainers
  • Walking sticks
  • Rucksacks
  • Water bottles
  • Freedom Pass for bus
  • Elastoplast
  • Elasticated knee supports (not kidding)
  • Binoculars
  • Swimsuits
  • Waterproof jackets and trousers (if you bring them it won’t rain)
  • Sunscreen/hats (if you don’t bring them, it will definitely be sunny)
